A place to start on spending cuts

 Average Salary of a teacher ……………. $40,065

Average Salary of Soldier DEPLOYED IN AFGHANISTAN……………….. $38,000

Consider some political compensations………

Salary of US President …………………….$400,000

Salary of Vice President ………………….$ 230,700

Salary of House/Senate …………………..$174,000

Salary of Speaker of the House ………..$223,500

Salary of Majority/Minority Leaders ….. $193,400

These figures do not include any perqs, such as staff allowances, office allowances, travel allowances, office space allowances, franking privileges, health compensation, etc etc etc etc. Arbitrarily speaking these additional costs more than triple the annual salary.

Also consider this:

Currently there are 4 living Presidents. Annual pension $720,000 PLUS the cost of their Secret Service details, travel allowance, Transition reimbursement etc. EACH @ $350,000 per year.  A total of $2.12 million

As of October 1, 2007, 435 retired Members of Congress were receiving federal pensions based fully or in part on their congressional service. Of this number, 286 had retired under CSRS and were receiving an average annual pension of $63,696. A total of 149 Members had retired with service under both CSRS and FERS or with service under FERS only. Their average annual pension was $36,732 in 2007.

Total annual cost to taxpayers $23,690,124.00

According to the Senates info page(http://www.senate.gov/senators/Biographical/former_senators_alphabetical.htm) there are  142 living retirees.

According to Wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_living_former_members_of_the_United_States_House_of_Representatives  there are 903 living representatives.

Somewhere some numbers got lost in the shuffle.

So what is it we get for these salary’s? If you look at the performance of government over the last 20 years the answer would have to be, “not a hell of a lot”  If the heads of any major corporation (that’s another subject) ran their organizations as inefficiently as the Government runs its, they would have declared bankruptcy a long time ago.

And isn’t that the exact situation we find ourselves in today?
